Laura and Drew,
I am so sorry not to have gotten back to you earlier - I was in the middle
of the count down week for our Spring Conference weekend. But because of my
delate, I can report on a very successful Conference focusing on Membership
Support with workshops on: "Membership: Obtaining, Involving, and
Retaining"; "Member Education"; "Member Sharing, Publicity and Public
Relations". =20
District 2 was very fortunate to have Stf/C Roberta Dougherty visit and
agree to be a Facilitator who shared her expertise on Youth Activities with
a presentation and lively discussion. Of special interest to our sponsoring
Squadrons was the information on Sea Scouts. =20
In the Member Sharing, Publicity and Public Relations workshop, two
innovative programs were discussed. The first discussed Publicity and
Public Relations using free monies both by Co-Op Advertising and grants.
The second is about our "Quad Squad" sharing. The Quad Squad was initially
established by four Squadron Commanders to assist one another in commanding
a Squadron.=20
The four Commanders meet every 6 weeks to share ideas, plan programs and
discuss problems. These Squadrons were already involved in sharing courses
and instructors to maximize their educational offerings. Quad Squad began a
Maritime Speakers Series involving other neighboring Squadrons. With the
speaker event, came more publicity, more public image and more inquiries
about our Boating courses. The Quad Squad now has 6 Squadrons involved
using the enthusiasm, sharing and synergy to all their Squadrons' advantage.
