Ahoy, 

Below is a flyer for a local USCGAux course offerings in my area. Our 
squadron and flotilla worked together down at the marina last weekend and exchanged 
class info. I found their offerings very interesting.

First course is like our "Squadron Boating Course" however they include a day 
on the water and detail locking procedures through one of our local lock 
systems. How cool is that!

The second course is more like our current AP class, which means they are 
already selling a state of the art electronic navigation course to the public and 
we are still discussing this???? Huh???

The U.S.COAST GUARD AUXILIARY, Edmonds Flotilla, is offering two BOATING 
SAFETY COURSES for students in North KING and South SNOHOMISH Counties. Each 
course consists of a 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm class, one evening a week.
 
BOATING SKILLS AND SEAMANSHIP is a 13 lesson course for all boaters, opening 
September 13th, 2005, covering BOAT SELECTION, BOAT HANDLING, SAFETY AND LEGAL 
REQUIREMENTS, AIDS TO NAVIGATION, NAVIGATION RULES, INTRODUCTION TO PILOTING, 
LINES ND KNOTS, MARINE WEATHER, TRAILING, MARINE ENGINES, MARINE RADIO, LOCKS 
AND DAMS. Included is a one day of underway training aboard Coast Guard 
Auxiliary vessels, inclkuding passage through the Ballard LOCks. This class is held 
Tuesday evenings at Seaview Pontiac/GMC, 178th & Highway 99 in Lynnwood. The 
course cost is $50 for one student and $20 for the second in a family, if they 
can study together.
 
ADVANCED COASTAL NAVIGATION is a 12 lesson course in piloting also opening, 
September 13th, 2005. Students learn all facets of marine navigation, from how 
a MAGNETIC COPMASS is constructed, to DEAD RECKONING, ADVANCED CHARTING, 
correcting for TIDES AND CURRENTS, CURRENT SAILING, ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION, and much 
more. An  extended CRUISE EXERCISE is included to sharpen the student’s 
skills. This class is held Tuesday evenings at Seaview Pontiac/GMC, 178th & Highway 
99 in Lynnwood. The course cost is $70 for one student and $30 for the second 
in a family, if they can study together.
