MemComments December 2005
Ice Fire=20
=20
Well, this is my last article for MemComments as the R/C=8A..Sad and Glad too=
.
I have been a member of this committee since 1997. Have served as Stf/C 3
years and am ending my 3rd year as R/C. It truly has been an honor to work
with so many dedicated members of this great organization!
=20
Much thanks goes to the Stf/Cs, Laura Teatero, and of course Roberta
Dougherty and Lyle Rea. I have enjoyed working along side these very
dedicated members and they have served USPS and our committee well. THANK
YOU.
=20
Our open meetings have been the most exciting in years and very popular at
our national meetings THANKS TO Jeanne Sangiorgio. She is truly a dynamic
individual and our committee has been blessed and enriched with her
outstanding leadership, ideas, and FUN that she instilled and provided our
committee.
=20
Many members made the job of R/C easy, Carolyn Knaggs for example. She
handled the table set up, take down, orders the materials for headquarters
to ship to our meetings, prices, sells and tracks the supplies, and then
repackages it and takes down our table displays. I never once had to worry
about this important duty, she just handled it=8A=8A=8A.THANK YOU. And many fello=
w
members stepped in to help, Thank you all too.
=20
It has truly been a joy to experience fellow members stepping up and
stepping in to various rolls during the last 3 years. Susan Darcy taking on
web duties, Barbara Erickson (Burdick) 1st Timers, and Lee Myers, holy cow,
merging 5 out dated committee manuals into one updated web enabled document=
.
Now the all new Membership Manual is online and available 24-7. Need a
roster? Bev Kennedy, she has done this job for the last 3 years and kept us
up to date, thank you so much.
=20
Other, many others, Committee Reps, Power of One, YOUTH poster contest,
MIRA, Growth Adward, BoatUS Civic Service, MemComments, many members workin=
g
behind the scenes to make these and many other programs happen! THANK YOU
ONE AND ALL!
=20
I have been one lucky guy, and I don=B9t want to miss thanking a very special
person to me, my wife Penny. Believe it or not, she has been my R/C right
and left arm. This job is much happier with a team of two, she has been ver=
y
understanding and I want her to know I appreciate this very much, THANK YOU
Hon ;-) I couldn=B9t have done this job with your support.
=20
I am leaving the committee in excellent hands. The incoming leadership is
outstanding and will continue to guide the committee to help USPS achieve
its growth goals in the future; I=B9m convinced of it in fact.

Membership Loss Rate
As a volunteer organization, statistical results are important just like in
business; however the numbers do not always provide an accurate picture due
the unusual dynamics of non-profit, volunteer organizations. With the
closing of 2005, we review the membership loss retention rate of this year
at 20.04%. This is really a net loss of 5%. How disappointing to reflect
back on our Renewal Campaign and Retention initiatives that did not produce
higher results. However another way to view this statistic is to realize
that it tells us 20.04% of our members were not satisfied to renew and we
did not provide them what they needed. To address this issue, the
Membership Committee leaders (Dougherty, Rea, Rayburn) for 2006 are viewing
the Squadrons as our =B3customers=B2 and establishing a =B3Keeping in Touch=B2 test
program with four districts. Details will be presented in the new year, bu=
t
our goal is to form a team of that will include the Chief=B9s Representative,
the D/C, D/A/O, National Member Rep, District Membership and either the R/C
or a Stf/C of the Membership Committee. Personal phone calls will be made
to squadron commanders and an on-line reporting form will allow the results
to be emailed directly to either the R/C or Stf/Commanders of Membership
serving as the specific team leader. Our intent is work as a team across
USPS levels to make connections with our local squadron leaders and be
certain they have the help, support and information they need. More detail=
s
will follow as we prepare this program..
=20
New Tools Available
=20

New Member Orientation Program will be distributed to each District
Commander on the D/C disc. Additional copies will be available at the
