Ahoy MemCom Members and Reps,
=20
The Spring Governing Board in Charlotte is history. One down two to go. Hop=
e
to see many of the committee=B9s members in Portland, Oregon in September.
=20
Thanks to those who were in Charlotte and helped make the meeting fun and
exciting. We certainly had lots to do and there were not shortage of
challenges. Friday morning was a hoot, NOT!
=20
Challenges were all met, even the many we don't expect when we plan for
these events. Gotta be able to react on your feet, helps to have folks
working with ya like Jeanne, Roberta, Lyle and many of YOU!
=20
Carolyn, the tables was superb, attractive, well manned, sales went
extremely well, and it was an exciting place for all members of USPS to get
needed info and materials.
=20
Open meeting holy cow, did we have some dancing to do. And for the members
of our committee that did not attend, WoW, you missed Jeanne's beautiful
voice singing "America the Beautiful" what a beautiful voice she has, the
room was mesmerized as I certainly was, this was one highlight I won't
forget! Jeanne, a big thank you to you and your TEAM.
=20
To everyone that manned our tables, THANK YOU. This is important and FUN.
=20
1st Timers, 37 registered, 25 attended the Thursday orientation session and
7 on Friday. In all at last count, 28 coupons for 1st Timers free gift at
Ships Store were turned in, this is neat. And FUN.
=20
Sea Scout Partnership session after 1st Timers was a new venue and will
continue in Portland.
=20
I want to thank Connie Johnson for taking the minutes. Susan Darcy for her
well planned and fun presentation, Jake Hill of McGriff, Seibels & Williams
Inc. Agents for St Paul Travelers Insurance Company, managers of the USPS
BOAT INSURANCE PROGRAM and the NEO, Spencer Anderson who addressed our
members at the meeting conveying his desire for a much closer TEAM relation=
s
between Education and Membership. This will happen. Ted, great job on the
"COP-Y" report ;-)
=20
Saturday's meeting was an event that represented the committee very well
indeed. Lyle and the POO TEAM did a great job of presenting awards for Powe=
r
of One, hats and jackets. Pricilla and Roberta presented the MIRA winners
their plaques and trophies, all in all the committee was well represented.
BTW, the P/C/C Bill Selden, SN MIRA trophies are beautiful. The winning
district and squadron will surely be proud to display this gorgeous award.
Thanks to Roberta and Pricilla for the great idea of honoring one of our
great pass chiefs in this way, the family is quite proud, and should
be........along with the winners.
=20
And finally I want to thank the members who helped pinned a "USPS 4 YOU - I
Renewed" sticker on everyone before the members' lunch on Saturday. As we
went around the room in the reception area, before the doors opened, we wen=
t
around pinning a sticker and thanking the members for renewing their dues.
They really responded to this in a very nice way, they were quite pleased t=
o
be thanked by their membership committee for renewing there dues, let's hop=
e
squadron are doing the same thing. This was FUN :-)
=20
Hope many of you can travel to Portland, Oregon to attend the fall meetings=
.
Don't forget the YOUTH POSTER CONTEST will take place at this meeting. Get
those posters to PORTLAND for judging........
=20
Meanwhile, please have a safe, FUN filled summer of boating and other famil=
y
and friends events. Don't forget the sun block!
=20
Once again, to all who helped make Charlotte FuN and Successful,
=20
THANK YOU ;-) Your Rear Commander / Bruce
=20
Renewals UpDate: Apprentices or Sea Scout Apprentices
=20
Each apprentice was sent their renewal notice by HQ in the amount for
national dues only, $12.00. If a squadron or district has a fee HQ does not
collect it, it must be collected by the local unit.
=20
Follow up - Re Non-Renewal
=20
Non HQAB, tradition billing system using treasurer's "dues transmittal
report" NOTE, apprentices Do Not show on this report. There simply is not
room. It's a DOS program and difficult to reformat. HOWEVER, each treasurer
was sent an addendum AKA list of apprentices in the squadron. This separate
list would then be used for follow up regards renewal. So the squadron does
or should have this information to use along with the regular dues
transmittal report. This will allow the squadron to follow up with each
apprentice in the squadron.
=20
HQAB squadrons have a web based accessible report and ALL members are liste=
d
including apprentices. This is a great renewal follow up tool and is update=
d
daily.
=20
I talked with a squadron member at a boat smart class last night and
reported they had received the "second notice" for dues.
=20
FYI. TIME TO FOLLOW UP ON EVERY NON-RENEWED MEMBER. SELL OUR BENEFITS FOR
MEMBERS AND THE NEW PILOTING AND ADVANCED PILOTING COURSES! SELL IT BABY!
=20
EXCITING NEWS FROM CHARLOTTE:

every public course material shipped will include;
=B7 Copy of THE ENSIGN
=B7 =B3What=B9s In It For You=B2 brochure
=B7 Member benefits flyer

squadron, want them to join. Squadrons can capitalize on this by marketing
themselves and USPS and advantages of membership. Well Done Creighton, your
pushing for this finally paid off, thank you.
=20
Manual Updates

Bruce Troth, AP and Stf/C Roberta L Dougherty, AP. The Selden MIRA (Award)

created each of the awards and certificates in memory of the commitment mad=
e
by husband, father, grandfather P/C/C Selden to USPS and the value he place=

on membership initiatives involving mentoring and retention of all members
in our organization. We thank them for their generous gift.

2) Community Outreach and Volunteerism give a district a great public
relations promo opportunity
Members of District 13 serve as volunteers manning the telephone lines for
KVCR-TV, the San Bernardino Public Television station during their spring
fund raiser/pledge drive during March 2004. It was on St. Patrick's Day,
hence the green hats. We had been scheduled to be "live," but due to
changes in their schedule, this did not end up being a live broadcast. You
see, often when you are watching a pledge break, it is a tape of somebody
else giving the spiel and the faces you see are not the ones who are
actually on the phones.

1) William Selden IV Member Involvement Retention Award P=
resented
At the Charlotte G/B Meeting on 4 June, P/R/C Priscilla Clark, AP p=
resented the following awards with the assistance of C/C G. Leslie Johnson, =
SN, R/C Bruce Troth, AP and Stf/C Roberta L Dougherty, AP. The Selden MIRA (=
Award) recognizes both squadrons and districts for having outstanding member=
involvement activities and initiatives each year
This year twenty-eight entries were received for the Selden MIRA 2005 repre=
senting 22 squadrons from 8 districts. Also we had three district entr=
ies. The family of P/C/C William Selden, IV had specially designed and=
created each of the awards and certificates in memory of the commitment mad=
e by husband, father, grandfather P/C/C Selden to USPS and the value he plac=
ed on membership initiatives involving mentoring and retention of all member=
s in our organization. We thank them for their generous gift.
2) Community Outreach and Volunteerism give a district a great pub=
lic relations promo opportunity
Members of District 13 serve as volunteers manning the telephon=
e lines for KVCR-TV, the San Bernardino Public Television station during the=
ir spring fund raiser/pledge drive during March 2004. It was on St. Pa=
trick's Day, hence the green hats. We had been scheduled to be "l=
ive," but due to changes in their schedule, this did not end up being a=
live broadcast. You see, often when you are watching a pledge break, =
it is a tape of somebody else giving the spiel and the faces you see are not=
the ones who are actually on the phones.
