USPS Friends:

All are safe and well here. The office now has power and internet =
access, and we have a generator at home to keep the refridgerator and =
TV/dvd machine working. We have running water at the house, though many =
of our friends in the Fort Lauderdale area do not -- should be back up =
today.
=20
I was able to move TRIDENT before the storm, all the way up the Miami =
River to the Bertram factory next to the airport, and she came through =
with just a few more bumps and bruises, but I didn't see any structural =
damage when I looked yesterday.
=20
6.6 million were without power in Florida yesterday morning, with 3.2 =
million of them in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach areas. Power =
has been restored to 500K of that 3.2 million in the last 24 hours. In =
Miami, 2 of 2800 street lights were working at 6am yesterday, and I =
understand 300 or so of them are working today. Every intersection is a =
four-way stop, so commutes take a little longer. Very few gas stations =
have power, and those that had lights on already had 150-200 cars in =
line, waiting for them to open this morning as I was driving in (and =
looking for gas).
=20
Weather has been cool since the storm, so loss of A/C at home has not =
affected us too much yet. Tomorrow is supposed to be much warmer, and =
tempers will probably rise in direct proportion to the temperature. =
Ice, water, and gasoline are in short supply right now, but the majority =
of the roads have been cleared, and grocery stores will begin to open =
today.
=20
All is well with us, however, and there was very little loss of life or =
injuries, from what we hear. Virtually no looting or fighting that we =
have heard about, either. FPL and water management people have been =
through this before, and seem very prepared.
=20
That's all for now. I'm supposed to have another round of auditors here =
on Monday, and I'm trying to postpone them until the hotels have power, =
and get their windows replaced!
=20
Thanks!

Lee

Lee, the attached application is from Austin (Wes) Gleason of Patuxent =
River Sail and Power Squadron. I am including his email address at work =
in the event that you need more information.
=20
Wes does understand that he would need to be at the Annual Meeting. If =
there is information I can provide, please do not hesitate to let me =
know. =20
D/5 is going to have a table at Fall Conference for SeaScouts. I am =
trying to get our members to understand the various ways we can work =
together....there is a prevailing attitude that the scouts only want to =
take, based on past experiences. Trying to combat that, and we will =
continue to work the issue.
=20
Regards,
Kay
