Ahoy Membership Committee Members,

I received a post yesterday from V/C Dvorak outlining his involvement =
with the Restructuring Committee. This team was established last Spring =
by P/C/C Les Johnson with the assignment to review the operation of USPS =
and suggest changes, leaving "nothing sacred." One of the suggested =
changes involves the Membership procedure to join USPS. The =
Restructuring Committee has recommended that we do more to attract =
"Experienced Boater's" to join USPS. V/C Dvorak writes, " Currently, we =
only approach the new boater with our basic boating classes. The vast =
majority of boaters can be considered 'experienced'. We have =
recommended that the examination requirement for membership be =
abolished, or if that is too large a leap, then for 'experienced' =
boaters that the exam be waived. I believe that the membership will go =
with the second option. This gives us a huge market to explore. =
Working with the ED. Dept. and Marketing we need to be positioned to =
jump on the opportunity once it occurs. I mentioned in a previous email =
Yacht Club members, but that is a small market compared to the =
70,000,000 out there that consider themselves boaters." =20

V/C Dvorak requests input from you about inviting Experienced Boater's =
join? What do we offer them? Additionally I feel we should outline a =
procedure for inviting them to join? Please do not respond with "give =
them the test?" I am looking for suggested steps to facilitate this =
process in order to attract experienced boat handler's to support our =
organization, educational initiatives and make it safer out there. =
Please give this some serious thought. I have my own view but I want to =
include yours. Let me hear from you by Friday 3 Feb. If you receive =
this email, that means I need a reply from you. =20

Times are serious. P/C/C Smith told me in Orlando that we face losing =
our headquarters building by 2009. We must act now to turn the =
situation around.

Your other assignment: Please check that your D/C or DXO received the =
CD-ROM distributed at the Executive Officer's Meeting in Orlando. It =
contains the two new power point programs professionally created by =
MarCom. One is a Recruiting Power Point that is a great recruiting tool =
for use at the Boating Class. The other is the New Member Orientation =
PowerPoint. This tool is a natural for every new member to view and =
learn about USPS. BE SURE TO LOAD THE POWER POINTS ON YOUR COMPUTER TO =
RUN THEM PROPERLY. There is a "read-me" file on the CD-ROM explaining =
that they will only work properly when loaded. These same programs are =
on the CD-ROM I distributed to you at the Closed Meeting. If the D/C =
does not provide a copy for each squadron, then please take care of =
doing the same. Anyone who did not receive a CD-ROM at the meeting, can =
request a copy from me. =20

I am asking that you send me an email at rdougherty@simcare.net by =
Friday, (3 Feb) at 1600, that you have checked with the D/C and that =
these programs are being burned onto a CD and given to each squadron. =
In the same post please also suggest one or two procedures for =
implementing the Experienced Boater Program. =20
Stf/C Lyle Rea, SN is on an extended trip to South America right now! =
Please copy both him and Stf/C Bob Rayburn, SN (r.e.rayburn@att.net) on =
any replies to me. I will call if I do not hear from you. As a school =
teacher, I always checked that the assignment was done. Let's roll! =
The time is now to act.

USPS for you for a lifetime!
