Ahoy all:
I have received this e-mail today and was instructed to disseminate the information to all squadron members. These are the classes that P/C Connie Johnson has been talking about for the Fall conference where we could see members of the National Operations Committee (O COM) leading these classes. I highly encourage all members to attend the Fall Conference to be held in Phoenix and see these new seminars for yourself. See notice below from Rear Commander Bob Sweet, SN:
SEMINARS
As you have heard, USPS University has been established and we are moving forward with a series of seminars that can be offered to the public and members. The first six are here and now available. We’re hoping to have six more by the end of the year. The seminar format will be about 2 hours which offers great flexibility in presentation and venue. Each will come in a kit form with student materials and a certificate. The student materials will contain retail products as well as USPS produced student notes. The instructor material will include PowerPoint slides, instructor’s notes, and we’re preparing a guide to giving seminars. The first six topics will be:
1. Basic GPS Seminar – updated with accompanying materials
2. VHF and Marine Radio
3. On-Board Weather Forecasting
4. How to Read a Chart
5. Boat Handling
6. Knots, Bends, and Hitches
We’re open to suggestions for seminar topics that would be of interest to your members and the local public. Dick Kyle and I will be attending the Boater’s World National Meeting next week where we will be talking with all of their store managers. We will be discussing these seminars and looking for their help with a location and promotion. More to come after the meeting.
