Glen Canyon to Quarantine Boats Found with Invasive Mussels June 10, 2008 -- Boats found to be carrying live adult quagga or zebra mussels into the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will be quarantined until a biologist can inspect them. The mussels pose a threat to water systems across the West. Quagga mussels have been found in lakes Mead, Havasu and Mojave on the Colorado River and in two major aqueducts that supply water to Southern California and Arizona.. Read article to get the details. " Since 2007, boaters have been required to sterilize their craft or certify they are mussel-free before entering Lake Powell. Violators face a $5,000 fine." ? This will require boaters to make sure their are cleaned. ? ? Bill Johnson Commander Phoenix Sail & Power Squadron ? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... At many of the meeting the Governing Board approves changes to the national bylaws that are needed to properly address the policy of USPS. Some of those changes ripple down to changes needed in both district and squadron bylaws. The national Committee on Rules accumulates the changes and about once every three years it issues a new set of model bylaws for both districts and squadrons. The latest version of the model bylaws for squadrons was released February 2008. The Phoenix SPS Rules Committee has reviewed that document and determined that the Phoenix SPS Bylaws need to be amended to bring them up to date with USPS policy. The Phoenix SPS Rules Committee has prepared two documents for your review. The changes they represent have received preliminary approval by the national Committee on Rules. 1) A short document listing the changes only. It is posted online at: _http://www.phx-usps.org/OpsDocs/PhoenixSPSBylawsAmendments.pdf_ (http://www.phx-usps.org/OpsDocs/PhoenixSPSBylawsAmendments.pdf) 2) A markup of the complete Phoenix SPS 2005 Bylaws showing the proposed changes. It is posted online at: _http://www.phx-usps.org/OpsDocs/PhoenixSPSBylaws2008Markup.pdf_ (http://www.phx-usps.org/OpsDocs/PhoenixSPSBylaws2008Markup.pdf) The markup convention is to use red strikeout text for words that are to be deleted, red underlined text for words that are to be added and black text for words that are to be retained. At your next opportunity, please look at either of the documents. The squadron will be considering approval of the proposed amendments at the 2008 September General Membership meeting. This year we have not had much luck in filling it up so I found your website and was wondering if anyone in your group would like to go? We can talk more about the particulars... I am just seeing if there is any real interest on your part. Please let me know either way so I know that you have received my email.
