Hello Pirates,
We were able to meet our goal of 100 VSCs this year. Thank you to everyone
who signed up for end of the year VSCs. We had a few more that we could
have done but will get you after the New Year begins.
To kick off 2008 the PBPS Vessel Examiners will hold a Vessel Examiner Class
and a VSC Event at a Marina near you. The idea is to get as many of our own
boats as possible examined prior to Rendezvous Season. This way we can
concentrate on non-members at the Rendezvous and do more PR. We will also
be able to get our new VEs qualified by completing their supervised VSCs at
these events.
The first event will be at the Des Moines Public Works Bldg during Bob
Miller's Power Boating Class. This spot is ideal for checking trailered
boats. It has easy pull in and pull out access. More information will
follow when the date has been determined.
For other events I am asking that members sponsor an event at their Marina.
This would include selecting a date, notifying or getting permission from
the Marina (whichever is appropriate), and posting notices. I will need to
assure that we have VEs available on the day you select so we may need an
alternate date as back up. We will do the rest.
In order to hold these events on a regular basis we will also need to
increase our number of Vessel Examiners. It's a lot of fun and a great way
to educate boaters on safety requirements.
Please let me know if you interested in becoming a VE or hosting a VSC Event
at your Marina.
