 Hey Pirates,

Here is an great opportunity to hear directly from the guys from Oar
Northwest that not only rowed across the Atlantic last summer from New York
to the UK. They were the first Americans to ever do so and won the race by
several hundred miles to boot. I'm sure they have some great stories to

Cdr Miller,

Tacoma Power Squadron would like to invite Poverty Bay to attend our
February 27 general meeting.  We have a program planned that we would like
to share with our neighbor squadron and think you and your members might
find very interesting.

You may have hear of OAR Northwest, the University of Puget Sound grads who
rowed across the North Atlantic this past summer, being the first Americans
to acheive this.  Check out their website at  www.oarnorthwest.com.  They
gave a very good presentation to us prior to this endeavor and we have
invited them back to regale us with tales of their adventure. 

They typically charge a hefty fee for their talks (I think something like
$1000), but since Tacoma Power Squadron and some of our individual members
sponsored them, they have graciously agreed to return for free.  We feel
quite honored for that.  However, they still have an enormous debt from this
undertaking (hence the usual fee) so it would be nice if some folks were to
find it in their hearts to make a contribution so bring your checkbooks if
you are so inclined but it is not required.  The important part is to hear
their stories.

Our meeting is at Totem Yacht Club  5045 North Highand St, Tacoma.  This is
just off North Pearl St near Pt. Defiance.  We have a social hour from
1800-1845, potuck dinner from 1845-1930 and then the program at 1930.  Our
business meeting is after the program.  Poverty Bay members are encouraged
to come to the social and potluck prior to the program.  A salad, side dish
or entree of any type for the potluck would be appropriate.

Please share this with your members and ask those that attend to wear their
name tags if they have them.
