Hey Pirates,

This is your chance to become a Vessel Examiner and crawl around in all
types of boats instructing fellow boaters in safety regulations. This is
one of the few opportunities to provide civic service to your community
whenever the mood strikes you. In addition to performing Vessel Safety
Checks at our rendezvous the PBPS VEs stroll the docks of local marinas
talking to boaters about safety and those who meet the requirements are
awarded with a decal.

Last year I signed up for the online "I want a VSC" program and completed 4
VSCs within a mile of my home. These boats were trailered and very easy.
One was a repeat as there were a few corrections required.

On February 17th, Craig Brown of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be teaching
a combined VSC and Program Visitor Class at the Coast Guard Headquarters in
Seattle. Please let me know by January 19th if you want to attend. Special
arrangements must be made to escort you on Coast Guard property.

Since VSC and Program Visitor will be combined members who are on the Public
Relations Committee may want to attend to become certified as Program
Visitors. This training equals 90% of the VSC training and this is why they
are being covered together. PVs visit businesses and promote USPS and our
Public Boating Classes by providing class schedules and other brochures.
