[Psml] Probable Spam: FYI - Special Maptech Deal

John,
The Maptech discount is available from Maptech directly through our web
site. They do not set dealer selling prices nor can they force dealers to
give us a discount. That is up to each dealer. In fact, approaching
dealers and demanding the USPS discount is the quickest way to get them
angry and potentially complain to Maptech. Then our discount goes away.
Meanwhile, I suggest that you contact Maptech about the Great Loop CDs.
They purchased SoftChart as part of a package of companies. They are
incorporating some SoftChart features into their charts. There is little
point in maintaining two competing lines within the same company. I am sure
they would be interested in the market potential that they might be missing
by dropping the Great Loop.
Regards,
Bob Sweet

Ron,
We have completed the America's Great Loop Cruise (a 6,724 mile
circumnavigation of the USA and Canada) during the Summer months of
2002-03-04 and used our laptop computer with GPS interface and
Nobeltech Visual Navigation Suite and Soft Chart International Charts
for our Computer Navigation System. Backed up, of course, with paper
charts.
We learned at the Atlantic City Boat Show this past February that
Maptech bought out Soft Chart International. We visited the Maptech
booth at the show and were told that Maptech has discontinued the
Soft Chart International two CD discs of the Great Loop (which
included chart lines for the entire Great Loop) and that USPS members
could only get discounts on Maptech charts if purchased through USPS
and not from local dealers??? Why they bought out Soft Chart and
discontinued one of their best products is a mystery to us and 1,800
members of AGLCA (www.greatloop.org).
We need and wish to buy the updated computer charts for the
Chesapeake Bay, but can't find out which chart numbers to purchase or
how to obtain the USPS discounted price.
We don't understand why Maptech would buy out Soft Chart and
discontinue the Great Loop CD's nor do we understand why they or
their dealers will not honor the USPS "benefit" which USPS National
promotes, but no one can tell us how to take advantage of???
To us, this appears to be a great PR program for Maptech, but a non
available benefit for USPS members?
Can you please help?
