P/D/C Al Chalupnik, SN passed over the bar on Friday, 14
December 2007

Adolph Neel "Al" Chalupnik went to be with his creator Friday,
December 14, 2007, at 8 p.m., at a local hospital.

Mr. Chalupnik was born September 29, 1923, in Houston, Texas,
to Gustave and Frances Chalupnik.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy
in 1943, where he served in the Sonar Division until the end
of the war.  He joined the Naval Reserve in 1943, and served
honorably until 1974, when he was discharged with the rank of
commander. 

After the war, Mr. Chalupnik finished college at the University
of Kansas, where he received a degree in electrical engineering.
He met his wife in Milwaukee, and Al and Janet were married in
Wausau.  They lived in Boston, Dallas and Shreveport.   Al and
Janet went into the insurance business in Shreveport, where they
reared their family of four children.  They retired in northwest
Arkansas and then Longview.

Al Joined the United States Power Squadrons and the Shreveport
Sail & Power Squadron in December 1989.  On retirement Al and
Janet moved to NW Arkansas where he became active in the Beaver
Lake Sail & Power Squadron.  He held various offices at the
squadron and district level, becoming the District Commander
for D31 in 2002.  He earned his SN grade in 2002.  He had been
awarded 15 MM during his association with USPS.

Survivors include Mr. Chalupnik's sister, Elsie Schiemenz; brother,
James Chalupnik; his three daughters, Catherine Fife and husband
Buddy, Cynthia Newton and husband Ron, and Mary Jean Davis and
husband Brice; his son, William Chalupnik and wife Jordie; three
grandsons, Andrew, Jim and Patrick; and his loving wife of 57
years, Janet Chalupnik.
