[Psml] Name change

Cdr Webb,

 

Dayton Sail and Power Squadron changed about two years ago in recognition of
the fact that 50% of our members were sailors. At boat shows and other
public functions, name recognition is much better, since we always had to
explain before what a "Power Squadron" was, and this is particularly true
here in Dayton since it is the home of Wright-Patterson AFB, so squadron has
a really military connotation in our town. 

 

One other benefit of the change is that we will relocate in the business
white pages alphabetical order: in the past we were listed just above the
Dayton Power and Light Co, and in bad weather our message line would be
clogged with complaints about power outages!!!

 

All in all the change was positive for us. Be sure to go through the
National process, change your by-laws and also if you are incorporated with
a charter in the state of Michigan, be sure to change your identity with the
secretary of state.

Our squadron is considering adding Sail to our squadron name. If your
squadron has changed plaese advise of the positive and negatives if any to
the addtion of Sail.
