[Psml] [USPS] Youth Activities

Dana,

Dayton Sail and Power Squadron has a developing relationship with a
fledgling Sea Scout ship in the Dayton area. We have invited them to present
the colors at change of watch and at a district meeting we hosted in
November 2006. We have set aside specifically donated funds to cover the
cost of any of the scouts taking BoatSmart, covering apprentice dues in USPS
and any member courses they want to take, all at no charge to the scouts.

Progress? Slow. We had 6 or 7 in a BoatSmart class last spring and none
have yet passed the test. We have been doing some remedial work with them,
but again ... progress is slow. We have taken in as members a couple of the
adult leaders of the Sea Scout ship, and we will continue to offer no cost
education to the young folks.

We'll try to keep PSML posted as we move forward.

Ahoy all ...

I would very much appreciate hearing from *all* squadrons as to
whether or not you either *sponsor* (BSA "Chartered Organization"), or
actively *work with* (BSA "Consultant") a Sea Scout Ship (or any other
Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Unit, e.g., Venturing "Crew", Boy Scout
"Troop", "Team", or Cub Scout "Pack").

We do have access to computer records (not necessarily up-to-date or
accurate) from BSA for "Chartered Organizations" (Sponsors) of BSA
units, but *not* any other "affiliations".

In other words, if your squadron, e.g., teaches Boating Safety and
Skills to Scouts, or Scouting Units, but is not an official "sponsor"
of a unit ("Chartered Organization"), please share your activities
with us.

Obtw, not just Sea Scouts/Boy Scouts, but with *any* youth
organization, e.g., Girl Scouts USA, will do.

We would appreciate hearing from you *before* the upcoming USPS
National Meeting in Jacksonville, FL. We are trying desperately to
compile an accurate picture of your involvement in Youth Activities.

Please reply, asap, to <w6dbm at arrl.net>

Thank you, and

Fair winds,

-Dana
