Ahoy all ...
My sincere thanks to all who responded to my request for USPS/Sea
Scouts BSA activity reports. WOW! Most of you are enjoying fabulous
success! Congratulations, and thank you for your report.
For those of you who are still anticipating the great success that a
squadron can enjoy by interaction with Sea Scouts, I can only say,
"Steady on. You, too, will eventually enjoy the same fabulous
results!" And, thank you for your report.
For those of you who will be in Jacksonville, FL, for our USPS Annual
Meeting, I hope you will have time in your, no doubt, busy, schedules
to join us for the USPS/Sea Scouts BSA presentation, 1400-1500
Thursday, 22 February 2007, in the Daytona Room at the Hyatt Regency,
Riverfront. Come meet Mr. Charles Holmes (Ft Worth Sail &, D21),
National Venturing/Sea Scouts Director, BSA, and Sea Scouts National
Commodore Jimmie Homburg.
We will be presenting examples and ideas for you to consider for
building your squadron by working with Sea Scouts. For those that may
not realize, Sea Scouts BSA is the second oldest of the BSA's programs
for youth, founded in 1912 (two years before USPS)! Today, it is a
program offered by the BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA for *co-ed* youth, ages
14-20 (incl.).
A registered Sea Scout is eligible for USPS "Apprentice/Sea Scout"
membership for $12.00/yr, until they reach the age of 24. This, I
believe, to maintain their interest while they are in school, or "just
getting started". In the same spirit, I'm sure, most squadrons, and
districts, have chosen to forgo their dues collections for
Apprentice/Sea Scout members. Please believe me, I've definitely seen
it pay off, many fold.
Looking forward to seeing many of you in Jacksonville!
Fair winds,
-Dana
