Hello all. As a dual member of the USCGAUX and USPS and having
something to do with the boat insurance program I would like to set
the record straight on a few things. As R/C of Member Benefits I
have no knowledge of USPS "Having to accept" USCGAUX members
automatically. We still have our procedures for membership and as
far as I know nothing has changed. As far as the not being able to tow
that is also not true. In fact
St. Paul has assured us that if a vessel is in "Imminent danger" we
can and should assist. Enhanced coverage has been arranged and an
official statement will be forthcoming from them. This includes
towing or being towed.
The numbers and percentages of people changing from "one side and
the other" is unknown to me and I really don't know where this
comes from. There are no statistics available to determine this.
Certainly if the percentages being used (15%) were true we, USPS
would be totally devoid of members in 6.66 years and the Auxiliary
would have 80,000 members.
Please understand that in view of the new security standards and
the privacy issues a few Auxiliarists will not go through the process
required for Homeland security. This does not mean that they are
undesirable only that they place a high value on their privacy. These
people IF they meet Squadron standards and IF they meet educational
requirements COULD be invited to join USPS. Understand that this is
NOT a mandate to accept any and all persons from the CGAUX.
