As the Ch/Mem/Com of Pennsway (PA) Squadron, I would like to know
what ?deals? have been made or ?assurances given? that we must accept
anyone from any Auxiliary ?unconditionally? into our Squadron or the
National Organization.
If an individual can not pass a security clearance, why MUST we
accept them into USPS -- this seams contrary to our membership
requirements which gave Squadrons the privilege to not accept certain
undesirables from our midst.
D/Lt John R. Gill, AP
John, and All,
It sounds like there may have been a misunderstanding in that message about
membership transfers. As R/C Ojeda pointed out, I know of no "deal" or hidden
assurances, and I believe any such would be contrary to our bylaws anyway.
R/C Al Lakin and the Committee on Rules would be a factual souce about the
Bylaws.
My understanding is that Cdr Dick Remski's comments are correct about
squadron's rights. I believe the squadrons still retain their option for setting
the bar of membership wherever it reasonably suits, so long as they use the
criteria consistently and don't discriminate against the protected classes, and
so long as their criteria include the national requirements listed in the
Operations Manual and on the MemCom-1 form.
A telephone call to a ComRules member or a MemCom member should clarify
whatever speculations that continue. I was present at Jacksonville, and have read
the minutes, and I found nothing that indicates a change in the membership
procedures, with the exception of the exam waiver, which is a temporary change.
P/R/C Alan Wentworth, SN
