Lance,

Downloaded and installed Shockwave player and problem remained.  Next, I downloaded and installed Flash Player in the laptop and that fixed the problem.  After clicking on properties with slide 12 in edit mode, the left side drop down box displayed a long listing.  I then opened Power Point, not the viewer, selected chapter 3, slide 12 and demo worked as designed. All other slides with demos also worked OK.  So, it appears ShockWave and Flashplayer must both be installed in one's computer for these demos to work.

Anyone having the same problem may need to install ShockWave and Flashplayer from Adobe.com for the fix. 

Thanks very much for your assistance in resolving this problem.  You let me in the right direction for the fix.
