The video was discussed on an Auxiliary bulletin board. They were able to dig up several interesting facts about the video.
The accident happened in 1991, in Lake Michigan, off Milwaukee.
The Auxiliary coxswain was fined $61 for failing to yield. The coxswain died in 1992 while scuba diving on the wreck of the "Prins Willem V".
The news report won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Year in 1991 for spot coverage. The spot was titled "Rescue Gone Wrong" and the reporter and photojournalist were named on the award.
Look at the video closely. The victims of the collision are looking at the tour boat just before the collision. One theory is that the passengers on the tour boat were trying to warn the victim boat that the Aux boat was about to crash into them. The tour boat got their attention but to no avail.
