[Psml] What's in a name?

I can't help but chuckle a bit as things that have been around come back again. Up until about a week ago when I dropped it, I had a "rocks" glass in our cupboard which had a clear label and a message.  The message read, "United Sail & Power Squadrons, A Idea Whose Time Has Come."

I received the glass from then D/16 D/C Ted Kinney, now deceased, who was spearheading a drive to change our name as suggested on the label.  That was 1977, one of the years Bob Woods was our Chief Commander. And of course, Tom Roscoe is the son of P/V/C Bob Roscoe, also now deceased, who was very active in our Educational Department at the time and would become our Director of Education (now NEO) a bit later, in 1981.

But don't get me wrong.  I think these discussions are very valuable.  It stretches our imaginations to think of what we might become and what we might best be called.  To my mind, the best suggestion(s) to date is that we need to do our homework via some real marketing efforts to learn how boaters would react to a variety of name change proposals.
