However, our squadron has purchased 3 Panasonic projectors over the last 6 years. We teach a lot of courses both to the public and squadron and they are often taught concurrently, hence the multiple units. We went with Panasonic projectors because they had a shorter throw distance and could be place much closer to the screen while still allowing a large image. We have had zero problems with any of them. No problems with any of them. Infocus has probably 1800 hours on it, Dell about 350 and Optoma less than 40. Only problem to report to date is Dell's remote control lost button functionality and it was replaced by Dell by return mail with no problems. We have a spare lamp for the Infocus but not for the others and have never had to change out lamps. Optoma is the brightest, Dell has the longest lens throw and Infocus the shortest of the three we have. Dick Remski DSPS/D24 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We are all volunteers trying to make a mark in our own way with the USPS. I use to be the SEO in our squadron 20 years ago and pre-DB2000 and this program is a true blessing. The team that supports this application really earns their merit mark and receives countless praise from all those who have done without it. When I read about declining membership I get concerned and there is no quicker way to turn-off members than to antagonize a hard working volunteer. I ask that you just forget this banter and accept an apology from the nameless masses. When the first person asked if they should keep 8.0.1 or wait for the next release, he wanted an answer that at least began with something like this... "No, we already have the fix prepared in version 8.0.3." THEN, the second person could go on to explain how it is found and downloaded and installed for optimum use. At this time of year, there are a lot of new commanders and other officers that are having their first experience with any internet based function of the USPS other than possibly getting a "list" of one sort or another, and it seems relatively few use these lists, compared to the number of people we have in responsible positions in the organization. The many people like John who have little experience with computers and are now thrust, by a new office in the USPS, into working with things like DB2000 that are not only completely unfamiliar to them, but on an unfamiliar medium, the internet. Someone saw fit to make this person a commander or the like and we need to respect their choice and help their squadron (as a team would) to be a stronger link of our overall fabric. None of us will benefit from tearing new holes anywhere in the fabric!!! We simply need to understand that we are all different and listen carefully to questions to interpret on what level the best answer would be presented to achieve understanding. It's quite apparent to me now that I did over react and I apologize, not only to John Bradley, but to the USPS listing. I was out of line and acted out of anger. I'm sorry I got so many of you upset with me and once more I do apologize John for my actions. We scheduled a time and the boater showed up a few hour later. He passed both the State Specific Exam (PA) and the ABC exams, and was awarded his Certificate and Wallet Card. When we asked him for his ?Valadation? number he said that he did not remember receiving one but promised to call us when he got home, which he did. He then related that he purchased the course materials from a private individual who gave him our Email course welcome, to contact when ready to take the exam or answer questions. We explained that without the Valadation number we were supposed to charge a fee of $5.00 for additional exams for ?family members?. Because this student really was interested in joining our Squadron and USPS we did not do so. Our feeling is that only our time was ?wasted? and not worth loosing a potential member. If in fact we were duped, at least another member of the boating public was educated and our time was therefore well spent. This posing is made only to alert others that the America?s Boating Course may well become an E-Bay favorite. The next time we are asked to give an exam, we will be prepared to tell the student to bring the Validation Number or his/her $5.00 fee since there is no Surname on the Verification certificate.
