The secret to opening a powerpoint for editing is to open the POWERPOINT program first and then open the file. You can edit any unprotected program this way. You can save a protected program as your own file and THEN edit it. Simply save it with a name you'll remember when you are done. If you open the file by clicking on it you will NOT be allowed to modify it even if you created it. The advantage to a PPS file is that it is tiny compared to a PPT file and takes up little space.
