Commander,
Not wishing to overload the members' mailboxes, I have sent you a private
response with the "technical" details. However there are two comments I
would like to share with the list.
1. Problems with our information systems should be directed to those
responsible. In this case, since it was felt that ITCOM had caused a
problem, the likely place to send the problem is the ITCOM Chair (R/C John
Bradley). If problem is not resolved to your satisfaction, send it to the
next in line (yours truly) at ns at usps.com . Believe it or not, we are trying
to help.
2. The problem your squadron is experiencing is caused by members not
renewing. The renewal process spans three months. The most recent dues cycle
started in April when the first notices were sent out. If dues have not been
paid by the due date (1 June) a reminder notice is sent out. Those who have
not paid by the time we reach July are NON-RENEWALS and are no longer
members. Since they are no longer members, they do not show up in rosters.
Reinstatement is easy, just pay the dues. I'm certain that Alamitos Squadron
is not the only squadron with empty slots and I would recommend giving those
folks a call in the event they forgot.
Cheers,
Dave Hinders
National Secretary

Subject: [Psml] Automated changes in our roster information
For the second time this year the information Technology committee system
has automatically taken a name off our OD -2 roster form without our
squadron's consent and without prior notice. In this case it is our member
who handles the DB 2000 reporting and management for the squadron.
Our member is having financial difficulties at this time and will be late in
renewing his dues. We intend to keep him as a member and for him to
continue managing DB 2000 for the squadron. Therefore Alamitos Sail and
Power Squadron, Squadron number 075 will have no individual handling DB
2000. We will not be submitting a new roster since we have elected to keep
the roster which we set up and assign members to handle. It is our place to
make changes rather then the national IT committee and their automated
nonsense.
If the IT committee is going to continue dictating to squadrons in this
manner you may soon find a vacancy in the Commander position for Alamitos
and possible loss of other Alamitos members as well. We run the squadron
not the IT committee or National.
