[Psml] Alternatives to GPS

Greetings!
The June, 2009 issue of Power and Motoryacht carried an article
on pages 26-27 about the re-development of the Russian
satellite-navigation system (GLONASS). This system could be
available for us with the addition of an antenna and/or software to
our existing equipment. Or, one might soon see units on the market
with both capabilities. On another note, the June, 2009 issue of
BoatingWorld Magazine carried a short item on E-loran on page 22. If
your existing unit is NMEA 0183 compatible, you can purchase an
antenna that will read both the GPS and E-loran signals. Now, would
it not be nice for a unit that reads all three signals and gives you
the "best solution" for the unit's location? Then, there are the
alternatives being developed by the European Union and, of course,
the LORAN-C option.
