The new up-to-date Advanced Piloting Course, which is based upon
electronic navigation, will commence on Tuesday, 12 September 2006, at
1830 at the Sailing Center. This new course is only ten weeks long and
with only an open book exam at completion.
Why should you take Advanced Piloting (AP)? AP builds upon the
skills that you learned in Piloting. AP provides essential knowledge to
become proficient in costal navigation. AP is a prerequisite for taking
blue- water navigation courses (JN, N).
The AP Course content includes: Extended coastal/inland cruising,
advanced positioning techniques, electronic navigation (chartplotters,
computers, digital charts, radar, sonar, etc.), tidal effects (depth,
clearance, current effects), use of standard tide/current charts,
adjusting for effects of wind & current, and a practice cruise using the
1210tr Chart and MapTech Digital Charting CD.
Prerequisites for this course are completion of the new Piloting
course or completion of the old Piloting course and the GPS Seminar. We
also welcome Advanced Pilots who would like to improve their electronic
navigation skills.
Members who are interested in attending this course please call or
email Bill Eibach at 727/525-0968/eibs1@juno.com, immediately so we may
order manuals by 25 August .
