Dear Gang,
The squadron will have a booth at the upcoming Marine Quest 2007, which is sponsored for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
WHERE: Downtown at the USF campus Marine Research Center....100 Eighth Ave SE.
WHEN: This coming Saturday, April 21st.
TIMES: Volunteers are needed to crew the booth...two hour shifts from 1000 [10:00 AM] to 1600 [4:00 PM]. The time blocks are 1000 - 1200, 1200 - 1400 and 1400 - 1600.
NEEDED: Additional volunteers. At present we have just the minimum to crew the booth. Volunteers are needed to augment the crew shifts, for back-up and also a few to arrive early, 0800 [8:00 AM] to set up the booth.
This is a swell way, especially for new members, to participate in presenting the SPSPS brand name to the public. Specialized knowledge of the squadron is not needed.
Marine Quest is not a boat show. The theme is conservation protecting the environment. Live maine animal displays will be featured. Therefore, there will be as many children as adults attending.
But, it is also a prime opportunity to sign people up for our boating courses and vessel safety checks...the squadron's most important missions. Or as the French say, The Reason For Our Existance...except they misspell and mispronounce it badly.
PHOTOS: Photos of last year's Marine Quest and a map are attached. The blue star marks the event location.
FOOD: Fast food and drinks will be available at reasonable prices. Rumor has it that Bill Eibach has graciously volunteered to prepare brunch...omelets to order, Belgian Waffles etc. using only a Bunsen burner and a mess kit. Okay, the truth is ...I'll bring a cooler of bottled water and a can of SPAM.
PARKING: USF has a five-level parking garage a pleasant three to four minute walk from the event site. The exact address will be provided in a follow-up e-mail.
UNIFORM: None. Wear a squadron burgee shirt if you have one.
TRUCK/SUV: At day's end there is a requirement to move the display materials to a mini-storage facility on US 19 south...near the Wal-Mart. Please volunteer yourself and your vehicle.
Please contact me if you want to volunteer of have questions. Uncle SPAM needs you!
Regards, Jesse
