Dear SPSPS Member,
The next course for SPSPS members in our educational schedule is
Piloting, beginning Thursday, 4 October, running for 12 weeks and ending
20 December.
Piloting is the first in the series of USPS courses on navigation. It
deals with navigation in coastal and inland waters where a typical
recreational boater spends most of his or her time. The focus is on the
use of aids to navigation, including charts, the compass, GPS, buoys,
lights and day marks. It's information you'll use every time you cast
off from your dock or mooring, or float your boat off its trailer.
Classes will meet at the St Petersburg Sailing Center, Thursday evenings
at 1900.
Piloting is the course a member typically takes following Seamanship,
and if you have completed that course, this is the one for you.
And if you haven't completed a USPS course since taking a boating course
and joining the squadron, I want to urge you to consider signing up for
Piloting. We won't be able to present another Seamanship Course during
this calendar year, so Piloting is a great opportunity to continue your
boating education this the fall. Give it a thought!
Stu Farnum
Squadron Education Officer
