St. Petersburg's Embree Marine was founded on Salt Creek in 1947 by Bert
Embree who was an engine mechanic by trade. He built the business into a full
service boatyard over the next thirty two years, starting with wooden yachts,
then making the transition to fiberglass. The yard earned a solid reputation
during those years servicing mid size power and sail boats.
In 1980 Bill Shakespeare bought the yard and Bert retired. Over the next
twenty years the yard continued to grow in size and reputation. Today, Embree is
managed by Chad Shakespeare, Bill's son, who has spent his lifetime at the
yard.
Embree Marine now services yachts up to 70 ft. in length and can handle up
to 20 ft. beams and 55 tons in gross weight. They employ 16 skilled craftsman,
many who have been with the company over 20 years. They offer diesel
mechanics, bottom painting, fiberglass repairs, electronics installation, blister
repair, a wood shop, hull buff and wax, marine electricians, Awlgrip painting,
plumbing, fuel and water tank replacement, sail boat rigging, bow thrusters
and much more.
Embree Marine is equipped to renovate complete boat interiors, and can also
change cabin configuration. They are highly rated by all the insurance
carriers for insurance work. They are members of AABRA and their repair quality
follows ABYC guidelines and codes.
Security for your yacht while it's in Embree's yard is important to them.
They have two Rottweilers that live at the yard full time and are let out of
their kennels at night to patrol the fenced and locked yard. They also have
24/7 security cameras to keep the uninvited out. Five years ago a 10 foot
alligator took one of their 100 lbs Rotts off the dock at night. The gator came
back the next night for the other one. To make a long story short, they caught
the 500 lb. gator and delivered him to the county alligator trapper, alive,
the next day. They replaced the Tottweiler and hope the older will clue him in
about alligators.
You can trust your yacht to the Shakespears. Chad is an accomplished racing
sailor and has operated power boats in excess of 68 feet. Bill Shakespeare is
a well known ocean sail boat racer and big game fisherman. Have your yacht
looked after by a fellow boat owners. Bill has a vintage Hatteras 42 and Chad
is rebuilding a Betram 34 in their closed shed at the present time. All of
their key personnel are also boat owners.
They fix it right the first, on time. Why not give them a try? I did and so
do many of your fellow members do.
