Hello again,
Since I sent my last email on March 16th, I have only heard back from 5
people (out of a squadron of well over 200). Right now, I have 3 votes for
Option 1-Transcanal and 2 votes for Option 3-Fall Colors. We really need to
get something chosen within the next couple of weeks in order to take
advantage of better prices and better cabin categories.
Please reply to this email no later than this Friday, April 3rd so I can
have the results to present at our next general meeting, 8 April.
Thank you so much!
Dawn

Subject: [StPete] SPSPS 2009 Cruise Possibilities
Importance: High
Hello again!
Earlier this year, I sent out a 'feeler' email to ask for
suggestions on what cruise options we might want to pursue this year for a
Squadron group cruise. Unfortunately, I only received responses from 4
people with a few ideas. One of the most difficult things to figure out is
timing. Obviously that has a lot to do with pricing as well as other
schedule conflicts. Below is some information I've collected to get this
thing rolling. Please feel free to respond with your comments so I can have
more data to work with as to the GROUP's desires.
SUGGESTION 1: Transcanal (10 days) during NOVEMBER (dep 20, 23, or 30
Nov). The 3 options I checked out are starting at $999 (inside), $1099
(outside) on either Princess or Holland America. All departures are out of
Ft Lauderdale. Itineraries vary slightly: Aruba, Cartagena, Panama Canal,
Cristobal, Puerto Limon, Curacao, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, or Half Moon Cay.
SUGGESTION 2: Eastern Mediterranean (7 nights) during OCTOBER or NOVEMBER
(temps won't be too chilly yet) with Costa Cruiselines. Some of the
itineraries I looked at leave from either Rome or Venice and visit Bari,
Santorini, Olympia, Mykonos, Rhodes, and Dubrovnik, Croatia. Prices range
from $649 (i/s), $1049 (o/s). The other factor is airfare of course, which
is around $1300 right now.
SUGGESTION 3: Fall Colors Cruise (7 days) out of New York City, departs
Sat., 17 OCTOBER on Princess Cruises. Prices range from $599 (i/s), $1099
(os/ or $1199 balcony). Itinerary: Newport, RI, Boston, Bar Harbor, St.
John, Halifax. Airfare to NYC from Tampa RT is approx. $250 right now.
SUGGESTION 4: Southern Caribbean (7 days) out of Ft Lauderdale, departs 20
NOVEMBER. Prices are excellent right now from $489 (i/s), $659 (os/), or
balcony $879 on Carnival Cruise Line. Itinerary: Port Everglades,
Philipsburg/St Maarten, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts.
SUGGESTION 5: Eastern Caribbean (7 days) out of Ft Lauderdale, departing
either 14 or 21 Nov on Holland America Eurodam. Prices are $629-699 (i/s)
or $699-799 (o/s). Itinerary: Bahamas/Grand Turk, San Juan/Puerto Rico,
Saint Thomas, Half Moon Cay. The other Eastern option is on the Holland
America Westerdam, departing 22 Nov. Prices are $649 (i/s) or $769 o/s,
$949 (verandah). Itinerary: Bahamas/Grand Turk, San Juan/Puerto Rico,
Philipsburg/St. Maarten, Half Moon Cay.
Should the group consensus be a cruise out of Lauderdale, I will arrange bus
transportation at an additional cost to be determined.
I look forward to your replies by the end of March so we can get prices
locked in as soon as possible.
Thank you!
Your friendly Social Activities chairman aka Cruise Director/Travel Agent,
Dawn Eckhart
