Subj: Hillsborough County Boating Fatality

On Tuesday, October 27, 2009, two Florida men were fishing from a 22-foot
vessel that was anchored in Tampa Bay off of Port Manatee. The occupant,
who was fishing from the front of the boat fell overboard. The operator gave
the subject a life jacket, but he never put it on. The operator then
attempted to get the victim back onto his vessel, but was unsuccessful due to
his inability to lift him. The victim became unconscious, but the operator
continued to hold onto him for a short while. The operator let go of the
victim to call for help and the victim floated away face down. The victim’
s body was located approximately 4 hours later and he was pronounced dead.
