[USPS-Webmasters] Excellence In Effort

As a new member of Portsmouth Power Squadron and eager to learn about not 
only my own squadron but all our power squadrons, I have visited and 
learned much from many of the excellent web pages the squadron volunteers 
present nation wide.

Regardless of the depth of the knowledge of a Web Master I feel that the 
effort and pride in each Web Site is indicative of the individuals effort 
and knowledge. I feel that if the information is being presented in a 
timely manner and is informative to the community, I am not put off by a 
lack of animated graphics as mentioned frequently. In addition, whether the 
Web Master uses vast knowledge of the HTML Language or uses a template or 
depends on MS Front Page or any other WYSIWYG html editor is not a point of 
concern.

The site itself, the organization, the presentation, speaks well of the web 
master and the squadron. The competition should be friendly and 
informative, the suggestions should deal with reality with consideration of 
the expertise of the volunteer.  I don't chastise my child because their 
drawing isn't a Van Gough nor do I take away any privileges.

I'm new but I think, certainly, a site that is prepared well, presents 
information well, links to related sites and adheres to USPS ITCom 
guidelines should be considered for an award, but each and every site 
prepared by a member and is also updated regularly deserves praise 'Just 
For Being There!' I congratulate them all.

I cheat - I use MS Front Page and a little knowledge of HTML but I want our 
site to be informative, simple and easy for the community to access and 
learn from. :)
