From plarcuni at sprynet.com Tue Jan 1 17:39:27 2008 From: plarcuni at sprynet.com (Phil Arcuni) Date: Tue, 1 Jan 2008 17:39:27 -0500 Subject: [USPS-Webmasters] New Webmasters Tools page Message-ID: <00b301c84ccb$46e00e20$d9e3540a@DellNotebook> A significantly expanded Tools page is now available at www.usps.org/national/tools. I recommend that you check it out. There is a great deal more information there, but you must "Logon as a USPS member" in the left column to use most of it. The original Tools page is available from "Webmaster Tools" link, also in the left column. Some of you may have bookmarked various tools available from the original tools page, such as the site integrity and disk space usage checkers. Many of those links have changed, and you will have to revise your bookmarks before they will work again. Please be patient with those changes. The expanded pages, which are still under development, will provide considerably more functionality than we now have. For example, when you "View Your own profile", there is the ability, at the bottom of the page, to automatically pass certain changes to the person responsible for your Squadron roster. Happy New Year to all, R/C Philip Arcuni, SN Chairman, Information Technology Committee From WMMILLER at aol.com Fri Jan 11 09:43:01 2008 From: WMMILLER at aol.com (WMMILLER at aol.com) Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2008 09:43:01 EST Subject: [USPS-Webmasters] Website suggestion Message-ID: Webmaster, Hereunder is a new idea we are trying for our webpage and I would like to share with our other webmasters: Ocean City Power Squadron is once again participating in the local boat show. We are going to post the ?Man-The-Booth? work schedule on the web rather than continually handing out revised work schedules to all our volunteers as changes to the work schedule occur. This should reduce the Boat Show Chairman? s administrative burden and paper work. Take a look at our home page _http://www.ocpowersquadron.org/_ (http://www.ocpowersquadron.org/) and then the month of February in the Event Calendar page _http://www.ocpowersquadron.org/Calendar%202008/Calendar%2008%20Index.htm_ (http://www.ocpowersquadron.org/Calendar%202008/Calendar%2008%20Index.htm) and ?left click? on the Work Schedule button listed under the Boat Show information. If this idea works well, we will consider posting future event work schedules on the website. Problems could develop if the schedule isn?t kept current by the Chairperson and posted by the Web Master however, we are going to try it to see how it works for the Boat Show and go from there. If you are not the webmaster for a national page, you can delete this. On 8 Jan 2007, a new search function was installed on the national site. This is a Google Search Engine customized for the USPS site. The majority of our pages are now using this new search function w/o making any changes. These pages are those which have maintained the standard templates. In Oct 2006, when we made the last update to the templates, a setSearch() call was added which installs the search function. Please check your pages to determine whether you have the old or new functions. The old function has a "Search" button and a "Clear" button. The new function has only the "Search" button. There are 3 things required: 1. The page must include stdUtil.js. 2. The page must have
