I took a look at the Boater's World web page for those kits
(http://www.boatersworld.com/product/376970505msk.htm).

Boater's World's claim that the kits are "all USCG approved" is obviously an
outright advertising fraud! If you look at the picture on the web page, the
numbers most certainly do not meet the Coast Guard requirement that
registration numbers be block letters - the pictured numbers do not meet the
requirements of 33cfr172.27 that call for "plain vertical block characters"
- the numbers pictured are instead multi-colored scripted numbers - and that
is just what I have seen in the stores.

In addition, the claim that the kits are ""all USCG approved" is also
obviously false because the USCG has no process to approve this type of
product prior to sale! The CG has an approval process for only a limited
number of recreational boat items, including distress flares, PFDs, flame
arrestors, nav lights and fire extinguishers. Numbering kits are not part of
the CG approval process.

It is a shame to see a name brand marketer such as Boater's World resorting
to such fraudulent advertising. Boaters who use these numbers would not meet
the requirements for the VSC decal.

>From Boater's World - - "Kits all USCG approved for display of registration
of boats letters and numbers." And, how do we know that? I'm sure there is
no 33-CFR-173.27 reference associated with this statement. Time to view a
kit.
