Hi Bill, et al,
Is the primary purpose of a squadron web site to keep our present =
members informed or potential new members informed?
I would guess present members should be the answer with potential new =
members a secondary purpose.
I realize that in order to keep the Organization viable we need a =
continual influx of new members. However let us not lose site of the =
original purpose we were formed: "as a non-profit educational =
institution dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable" I =
also realize that an organization such as ours also needs an influx of =
money in order to keep a positive cash flow But remember, we are not =
organized to "make money", so our present membership is the backbone of =
the Organization, not "maybe" members. If we are going to worry about =
what one thinks about our sites we should always defray to our existing =
membership, not what '"might be" members may think! =20
I think we put too much emphasis on what potential members may think =
rather than what our existing members want to see in Squadron =
information. We are starting to look at web sites as a competitive =
"business" tool rather than an enjoyable Squadron means of communicating =
with its members. Let's have fun and stop thinking like a business, we =
get enough of that in our normal work days.=20
