[Webmaster_forum] Secure web site area for members only

My impression was that the password-protected area mentioned in the
beginning of the thread would be blocked from search engines, as well as
anyone else without the password. Doesn't the meta tag "robot"
accomplish the same thing as robot.txt, but applied to individual pages?

Isn't this a question of having a facility to maintain robots.txt which
sits at \web\webroot and is suppose to tell indexing robots where not to
go? Or alternatively if we had a policy of allowing a "secure" directory
under any localusps directory that wants a secure directory we could add
a statement like DISALLOW \localusps\*\secure and accomplish the desired
result.

Understand Guys that this is what Dave turned up and I did tell you guys
a while back that one of the major problems was that google would index
everything.
You need to get Dave to tell people how to exclude directories from the
search and he needs to manage that.
Cheers,
Dan
PS: Other than this problem the search works great At 15:36 3/12/2008,
