Pittsburgh Power Squadron is a unit of United States Power Squadrons®. Pittsburgh Power Squadron was formed by members of Oakmont Yacht Club and received its charter from USPS in 1939. To this day, we continue to be based at Oakmont Yacht Club, offering boating classes and seminars at OYC throughout the fall and winter seasons. We are part of District 7 which is made up of 13  squadrons from Vermilion OH, through Cleveland and Pittsburgh, south to Charleston WV.

We offer America's Boating Course introductory safe boating courses which run for 5 to 6 weeks. These classes teach navigational aids, rules of the road, anchorong, different kinds of anchors, basic piloting, knots, docking, and basic seamanship. The instruction is offered at no charge, although there is a fee for the Student Manual and charting materials.

Periodic classes include Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting, Weather, Marine Electronics, Cruise Planning, Sail, Engine Maintenance, Instructor Qualification, and Navigation.  Visit our membership page for information on how to join the Pittsburgh Power Squadron.

The United States Power Squadrons®, formed in 1914,  is the largest fraternal boating organization in the United States. We have over 400 squadrons across the U.S. and U.S. Territories. We are a non-political, non-governmental organization, though we do work closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxillary, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Department of Natural Resources of most states.
