This informative course runs for 5 sessions, 7pm – 9pm. The first four sessions are instructional and the fifth session is the exam. Course Fee payable at time of registration with the school of choice (see schools and dates below).

Those who successfully complete this 5 session course are generally eligible for a 10-15% discount on their watercraft insurance policy. It will also qualify you for membership in the Rochester Sail and Power Squadron, with the first 18 months at the price of 12! The Squadron offers more advanced courses on many topics.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older unless accompanied by an adult.

Young Boaters Safety Course

The Rochester Power Squadron offers a
young boater's course designed especially for kids 10-17 years old. Presently
This NYS certified course covers the safe operation of all types of boats including personal watercraft (jet skies). In addition the course also covers boating laws, navigation rules, safety equipment, how to handle water emergencies and other related topics.
Upon attending all class sessions, completing the workbook and passing the NYS proctored exam; the student will be issued a Boating safety certificate certifying them to operate a powerboat alone. There is no cost for course materials or instruction.
