Young Boaters Safety Course

We're sorry. This course has not been scheduled.

The Rochester Power Squadron offers a young boater's course designed especially for kids 10-17 years old. Presently New York State law does not allow persons under the age of 17 to operate a powerboat alone without having successfully completing a state certified safe boating course.

This NYS certified course covers the safe operation of all types of boats including personal watercraft (jet skies). In addition the course also covers boating laws, navigation rules, safety equipment, how to handle water emergencies and other related topics.

Upon attending all class sessions, completing the workbook and passing the NYS proctored exam; the student will be issued a Boating safety certificate certifying them to operate a powerboat alone. There is no cost for course materials or instruction.
