Vermilion Power Squadron Burgee

Vermilion Power Squadron

Commander's Comments for November

              I have several announcements to make this month, so let me start with this;

              First & foremost, on behalf of Patti & myself, I’d like to wish each & everyone of you a very Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving. I’m sure if we’d all carefully reflect, we’d all have much to be Thankful for.

              I’d like to formally Thank several members of the squadron, for helping out the folks over at 3M with their Health & Safety Seminar this past August, namely Cathe Radabaugh, Dave Bialorucki, and both Jean & Pat Verlotti. I did receive a Thank You from their company spokesperson expressing their gratitude. You are all fine examples of model squadron members.

              It gives me great pleasure to announce that Dave Woskobnick  has agreed to join the bridge next year, and accept the Treasurers position. We certainly Welcome Dave , and also extend our deepest appreciation to our departing Treasurer, Larry Barber, who has served his squadron long & well. Thanks Larry. Welcome aboard Dave.

               I wish to again Thank our Administrative Officer, Duane Bibler for his “ outstanding schedule” this past summer, and including this Fall. If you didn’t attend any of his functions you surely missed out! I would be remiss, If I didn’t  Thank You , yes YOU, for attending & participating in our squadron events. Without you they would not have been the great success they truly were.! And not only did you  attend our events, you  participated & volunteered to ,”get involved,” and  your enthusiasm rewarded not only you but all of us.!!!!!!!!

        On a side note, after you’ve taken your boat out this fall, Why not consider enrolling in a United States Power Squadron education class this winter?  It’s a great way to learn, and possibly meet new & interesting people, and make lasting friends too.!

        Please be sure to plan to attend our General Membership meeting this month, for it’s MATES NIGHT, and we have some special entertainment lined up for you. So treat your, “significant other,” to the evening out they deserve , and bring them to this  festive event. I’m convinced you’ll both enjoy it.!

        Our October membership meeting was held at the John Christ Winery, in Avon Lake, where  29 members & guests joined in for a dinner of Subs, potato salad, and plenty of delicious Halloween desserts.  Yours truly had the pleasure of presenting Senior Merit Mark plaques to Bruce Barnhart & Larry Barber. I also  presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Jeff Scott, AP for his commitment to the Vermilion Power Squadron.

        My remaining presentation was to Tim Smith, a new-comer to our squadron this summer, his Training certificate. The guest speaker was again,  myself, where I talked on Patti’s & my  recent North Channel trip. A special Thanks  to Patti Barnhart for setting this program up on Power Point, and to Bob Moss for his help in the presentation itself. A huge Thanks to ALL who showed up, who baked or contributed to our buffet, and for those who ,"made it all happen." Vermilion can always be Proud!

        In closing my comments, I do hope your planning to attend the District 7 Fall Conference at the Airport Marriot, being hosted by the Rocky River Power Squadron. The dates are November 6-7-8 and the address is 4277 W.150th & I-71, Cleveland, Ohio. Please consider any portion of the weekend, from the Friday evening Ice Breaker, to the all-day seminars & meetings on Saturday and of-course , the closing formal dinner, with awards presentations. There’s a lot to be learned, and a chance to meet a National representative . You’ll not only meet interesting people, but will surely make new friends and learn a lot about the ,"Internal make-up & complexities," of the United States Power Squadron.

         Fraternally,

         Rich

         Did you know? Marine engineers seem to be of one mind in this; Used engine oil should be jet black and NO other color. If after some hours of use, it’s brown, milky or some other color, seek expert advise ASAP.
