How to join
As members of Waterbury Power Squadron, we enjoy all the benefits of membership in the United States Power Squadrons as well as some extra local benefits.
Members of the United States Power Squadrons (USPS) and Waterbury Power Squadron (WPS) come from all walks of life. One of the great features of USPS and WPS membership is that we are all volunteers. The main things we share are a love of boating, boating fellowship, and promoting safe boating through education. We get involved in squadron activities for our own enjoyment and to help other boaters. We have fun!

USPS membership benefits include:
- The best boating-related educational programs available anywhere in America at amazingly low costs. Click on Advanced Boating Education & Training for a description of the USPS courses and seminars offered locally and the member prices available through Waterbury Squadron (WPS).
- The course pricing structure actually offers a hidden benefit: For all USPS courses offered by WPS, a non-member's price is $100.00 more than the member's price. At this level, the non-member course prices are highly competitive with costs for comparable courses at local community colleges. That $100.00, though, is actually more than the cost of one year'smembership in USPS. Thus, when the person is ready for another course any time within that two years, he/she is now a member and pays only the member price - a clear savings of $100.00 per course on all courses taken while a member of USPS and WPS.
- Significant discounts on boat insurance and many marine-related products, services, and computer software & hardware. Click on USPS Member Benefits for full details about these discounts.
- USPS Port Captain program that provides you with a "friend in every port" who can provide you with that all-important "local knowledge" you need when traveling by land or sea to new boating venues in America.
- Liaison with governmental agencies and national partner organizations involved in recreational boating. Some partner organizations, such as BoatU.S., offer reduced membership dues to USPS members.
- Tax deductions on USPS dues and some travel expenses, depending on your personal tax status.
- Free subscription to the USPS official magazine The Ensign and the USPS official electronic newsletter The Compass. Many special offers for members are published in the documents.
Additional WPS membership benefits include:
- Monthly dinner/program meetings with interesting speakers on a wide variety of topics of local marine interest, all for just $5.00 per person (plus a salad or dessert to share) for a full dinner.
- Cruise/rendezvous on the Connecticut River, Long Island Sound and adjacent waters of Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
- Free subscription to The Pharos Beacon, Waterbury Power Squadron's award-winning monthly newsletter (sent either via e-mail or ground postal service).
