Anna Maria Island Sail & Power Squadron, AMISPS, is a unit of United States Power   Squadrons ®. We are America's Boating Club TM, the world's largest non-profit boating organization.
AMISPS is part of USPS District 22, one of the many squadrons located on Florida's Gulf Coast. Our commander welcomes you.

Manatee County is south of Tampa Bay. Anna Maria Island is a barrier island with the cities of Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach and just to our south is Longboat Key. It is a wonderful vacation area with very good boating opportunities and world class beaches. However, we are blessed with large expanses of very shallow water, so local knowledge is essential. Be especially careful if you have a sailboat.

September 2020 Notice to Newcomers:

Whether you are a powerboat or sailboat owner, AMISPS is an organization that may hold interest for you. If you are new to boating you should definitely consider taking a boating course. If you are interested in other west coast areas, check out the District 22 web site for links to other squadron websites.

The AMISPS STORY began in 1958 and in common with all USPS squadrons it is both an educational and social organization. Its operation is directed by the Bridge, officers elected from the membership each year to head its various activities. The squadron holds monthly business meetings and frequent social events. About once a month we hold a "Cruise and Rendezvous" which is usually lunch at a place accessible by boat. However, many members attend by iron dinghy. To appreciate the fun things we do please visit our Facebook page. For detailed information on our squadron organization and mission please review our Membership Manual

Several times per year the squadron holds Public Boating Courses and seminars. In addition to marine topics the course, America's Boating Course, includes Florida boating law which is strictly enforced by state agencies and the USCG. Check the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website to familiarize yourself. Our boating courses are held in our building located in NW Bradenton.

We also hold advanced courses which are reserved for members only: Seamanship, Piloting, Advanced Piloting and Navigation, earn the member grades reflecting educational prowess. Elective courses are also offered in many subjects such as Weather, Sail, Cruise Planning and Marine Electronics. These excellent courses are free except for the course materials and are a very good reason to become a USPS member.

As a public service the squadron performs free Vessel Safety Checks. These are done by some of our very experienced members to see that your boat is in compliance with state and national regulations.

The AMISPS building is available for rental and is eminently suitable for wedding receptions and social events.
