Squadron Burgee Heraldry:
The 13 vertical Blue and White stripes represent the 13 original colonies that formed the United States of America. The wide diagonal stripe is to include the three colors, Red, White and Blue, that is found in the U.S. Ensign, the Yacht Ensign, and the USPS Ensign. The Lincoln head, surrounded by a steering wheel, portrays Lincoln as the river boatman. Since Springfield Illinois is known as the Land of Lincoln, hence the name of the Springfield Squadron.
