Welcome to the home of the Durham Sail & Power Squadron a unit of the United States Power Squadrons®, a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable through education and camaraderie, originally founded in 1914. The Durham Sail & Power Squadron was founded in 1961. Our members are primarily located in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but some come from further away.  Our member meetings are held at Bennett Pointe Grill & Bar.  Click on the link for directions to Bennett Pointe Grill & Bar.  Educational courses are held at various locations depending upon the course.  The course description will identify the location where it is being held.

The purpose of the Durham Sail & Power Squadron is threefold:

We perform community service by offering boating safety courses to boaters in our communities. We also conduct courtesy Vessel Safety Checks at the request of owners. We also assist NOS/NOAA, the National Ocean Service of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association by providing information leading to corrections to nautical charts, small craft charts, and Coast Pilot publications. We also supply data on depth surveys, range status, geodetic marks, and aeronautical charts.

We offer a wide range of nautical related courses. Specifically, we offer a public boating course that is open to anyone and offer other courses of interest to members. These include courses such as Seamanship, Piloting, Celestial Navigation, Cruise Planning, Engine Maintenance, Weather, Marine Electronics and much more. These courses are taught by experienced members of the squadron and members completing them are recognized.

We also enjoy each other's company through participation in various outings, meetings, and volunteer work. You can view the squadron activities by clicking on the calender link to the left.
