District 13 Boat Show

Each year District 13 provides a booth at several of the Boat Shows held in the greater Los Angeles area. Each Squadron is asked to provide volunteers to staff the booth throughout the week long (usually) show. The volunteers may wear their USPS uniforms, although this is not mandatory. The volunteers spend their time soliciting passers-by to stop and look at the USPS literature on display, answering questions the passers-by may have, and encouraging them to sign up for the Basic Boating Class in their home area. Names, addresses and phone numbers of interested persons are retained for the District 13 Boat Show chairman to distribute to the Squadron Education Officer (SEO’s) of the appropriate Squadrons. If possible husband and wife teams should staff the booth to illustrate the family aspect of the USPS. Volunteers may put in shifts of two to four hours, and are encouraged to remain until their replacement arrives. The Valley Ho volunteers should keep a record of the names, addresses, and phone numbers of any interested persons who live in the greater San Fernando Valley area for transmittal to the Valley Ho Squadron SEO who can then make direct contact with the person regarding information about the next Basic Boating Class.
