WELCOME TROPHY Outstanding Development (Awards and Recognition Dinner)

The Welcome Trophy was presented to the Valley Ho Power Squadron by Walter W. Wood, SN, who was Commander in 1985. This perpetual trophy is to be presented annually at the Awards and Recognition Dinner at the discretion of the Commander to a Valley Ho member who has shown outstanding achievement in membership development. Additionally, an annual donation of a small plaque will be made to the recipient of the award.

ALBERT N. ZALON PERPETUAL TROPHY Service Award for Promoting Squadron Education (Awards and Recognition Dinner)

Dedicated to the memory of Albert N. Zalon, SN, who through his deeds and actions made an outstanding contribution to our Squadron. This trophy is to be awarded annually to an instructor of the Valley Ho Power Squadron who has made significant contributions to Safe Boating Through Education. This trophy was presented to the Squadron by his friend and associate Jerry Deitz, SN.

HOWARD D. LEIGHTY, SN PERPETUAL TROPHY Service Award for Outstanding Participation (Awards and Recognition Dinner)

This trophy was presented to Valley Ho Power Squadron in the memory of Howard D. Leighty, SN who was an active member of Valley Ho for 10 years and participated in all phases of the Squadron’s activities. This Award will be given to a junior member who has demonstrated overall participation in squadron classes, committees and social functions. This perpetual trophy was presented to Valley Ho Squadron by Alice Leighty, SN. A small plaque will also be donated and presented to the recipient.

This trophy was received by the Squadron from J Robertson, SN for presentation each year at the Commander’s Ball, to the Cruising Skipper of the Year, for his efforts and promotion of Squadron Cruising and its pleasures.

MASTER MARINER AWARD Awarded at a Squaron meeting after member completes all educational classes

This award is presented to a member of Valley Ho after they have filled every square on their USPS certificate and received five Merit Marks. Their rank is now SN.

GREAT SAIL RACE PERPETUAL TROPHY (Awarded at the end of the season)

This trophy was donated to the Squadron by Avram Rubin for presentation each year at the Victory Dinner to the winner of the Valley Ho Great Sail Race. This race tests the sailing skills of all Valley Ho sail and power enthusiasts who dare to crew on sailing vessels.

DING DONG TROPHY Special Category (Awarded when appropriate)

This trophy was made by Frank Kamensky to replace the original trophy, lost by one of the former ding-a-lings. The original trophy’s bell came from Dave Klein’s boat after a fire. It was mounted on a stand by Julio Eisenbruch and first presented by Mike Fuerst as a trophy called the “Ding-Dong”. The trophy is more commonly referred to as the “Ding-A-Ling’ award. If you need an explanation of this - just make a boo-boo with Squadron witnesses and find out first hand! For posterity the recipients shall remain anonymous.

PREDICTED LOG (Awarded at the final race of the season)

The skipper who can predict the times most accurately while operating his boat at pre-selected speeds over a course set between various nautical marks and predicting the time it will expend to complete each leg of this course is presented the trophy.

Sea Gals Trophy Outstanding achievment by a Sea Gal (awarded at the COW)

The Sea Gals Trophy was presented by Susi Clifton, SN. The recipient is to be determined by a Sea Gals Committee. This perpetual trophy is to be presented annually at the COW. The trophy is awarded to a Sea Gal for outstanding achievement andd contribution to the SEA GAls and Valley Ho Power Squadron. Additionally, an award of a a small plaque will be made to the receipt.
