USPS VE & CG AUX
As VSC Chair, I recently got a message that brought up multiple searches both in the VSC Manual and multiple emails to knowledgeable people both in USPS and the CG Aux.
We have to remember that in USPS we have members that also are members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. In our respective organizations we have a joint endeavor which concerns Vessel Safety Exams.
Not that it would ever happen but there is a chance that ' double-dipping ' could occur without direct intent. This is at the bottom of the 7012 form, where the paragraph starts off with ' I certify that I have personally examined this vessel and find it meets the above requirements of this vessel safety check. I am a qualified vessel examiner of the: CG AUX [ ], USPS [ ] etc etc
Can an examiner get credit from both the CG Aux and USPS by submitting on-line this report using the HIN number ? Once to CG AUX and then to USPS ? Thus ending up with credit with the CG Aux and USPS ?
Well certainly, because it's on-line and right now the data bases are separate.
But with our continued close association with the CG Aux, the data bases could be combined in the future.
So how about we say this plain and simple to prevent embarrassment among adults. If you perform a VSC and you are in a CG Aux uniform, you only claim it on your CG Aux form. So if you are in the VSC 'Red' uniform you then claim it on the USPS VSC submittal form. Not on both.
I never claimed to be an English professor or even a lawyer or great writer so items from my desk will probably continue to be in dockside language.
