Squadron Activities

Waterbury Squadron has a range of activities that appeal to boaters as well as non boaters through out the calendar year. We have many events which are accessible by car as well as by boat, making it easy to participate. This is intended as an overview of a typical year of activities. Details regarding event dates and location are found on the calendar page.

Monthly Meetings: Our monthly membership meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM, except for the months of July and August when we focus on boating activities. The locations vary from month to month and may include local restaurants or other locations offering activities of interest. Often we invite guest speakers to discuss topics of interest. These are family friendly meetings where the whole family is invited to attend and socialize.

Picnics: There are two picnics each year. One sponsored by Waterbury squadron and a multi squadron picnic that is always well attended by Waterbury members. Each of these events provides hours of family fun.

Boating Activities: Our boating calendar usually includes six to eight "on the water" events which range from an afternoon on the water to a week long cruise. Most consist of a weekend spent on the water, with some members participating for the entire time and others spending a few hours. Approximately half of these events will be held at a marina or harbor facility that is also accessible by car. Many members drive to these events and spend an afternoon socializing. Boats ranging from kayaks, and small runabouts to 30 foot and larger can be seen at these events.

Advanced Boating Education: Our education department typically holds four to six classes per year taught by local members in a small roundtable forum. The choice of which classes are offered depends on the needs and wishes of the membership. These classes are as much about socializing as they are about learning. Many new friendships evolve from these classes.

Civic Activities: Our civic events such as our "Safe Boating Week" activities and our public boating courses also draw members who socialize while providing a valuable service to the community.
