Inland Boating

Districts in USPS® are formed with boating accessibility in mind. They not only include coastal areas, but also include any navigable waterways, lakes, and rivers that are in a region and may include portions of nearby states. District 31 is located in the central-south portion of the United States and includes the states of Oklahoma and Arkansas. Our district is prolific with lakes and rivers and even has the McCellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, complete with its locks and dams, which starts in Oklahoma at the Port of Catoosa (the United States’ most inland river seaport), runs through Arkansas, and ends at
the Mississippi River.

In our district, we have a unique mix of natural and man-made resources, including the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, the Green Country in Northeastern Oklahoma (so named because of all the lakes, springs, and creeks in the area), the Texoma area in southern Oklahoma which shares Lake Texoma with Texas, and access to the great Mississippi River which bounds our district on the east.  All of these resources bring us some of the best inland boating, natural wildlife, whitewater canoeing, camping, fishing, as well as the beauty of the great outdoors to enjoy while we do some of these water-related activities. We are also fortunate to have some very picturesque resorts which offer the opportunity to boat while vacationing comfortably either in cabins or grand hotels.

Our members enjoy a wide range of boating. Some like trailer-boating; some have large cruisers,
others have runabouts, pontoon boats, sailboats, houseboats, fishing boats, personal watercraft, and
with all that whitewater handy in our district some members  enjoy canoeing or kayaking as well.
