How to Become a Member

If you are at least 18 years of age with a passion for boating, and a desire to learn how to do it safely, you can become a member of the United States Power Squadrons. There are three ways to do this:
  • Join now  to become a cyber member.  The first step of full membership in USPS.  This is our online method to join USPS.   It's fast and painless.
  • A squadron contacts you   Using this choice, a squadron near you will be in contact with you once you have completed a contact form. 
  • You contact a squadron, note below.  The contact for the Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron for 2015 is Commander Dave Sloan.  See our bridge page for contact information.  The area of activity for the Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron is the NE part of Oklahoma (sometimes refered to as Green County).  Our activities are primarily limited to Grand Lake of the Cherokees.  Further description of our area may be viewed at this link

Education Requirements for Membership in Grand Lake Sail and Power Squadron

The Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron requires the passing of a USPS or NASBLA “approved” boating course. 

Any one of the many classes offered on line by the USPS.  Click here to see a list of those classes.  The squadron offers a variety of educational classes that satisfy this requirement.  Visit our educational department page for information pertaining to our latest offerinngs

USCG Captain's License, a degree from the US Naval Academy, USCG Academy or US Merchant Marine Academy.

Or any boating course carrying NASBLA certification. These include: State approved boating classes.  In Oklahoma such classes are available on line at http://www.boat-ed.com/oklahoma/  Class room sessions of this course are offered at various locations in Oklahoma.  The GRDA provides Saturday classes during certain months at locations around Grand Lake.   Visit this web site for more information.http://www.grda.com/?s=boating+education

There are several commercial on-line companies offering basic education courses.   Be sure they are NASBLA approved.  They should display the NASBLA logo
