We are boaters, hunters, anglers and sports people of all types. We have fun in and around the water and contribute to our communities by promoting safe boating on the water and in the classroom.Public Boating Education ~ USPS squadrons contribute to boating safety by offering local public boating safety classes several times each year. Certified USPS Instructors volunteer by teaching the classes that include instruction on the rules of the road, boat handling, equipment, chart familiarization, federal and state boating regulations, basic knots and many other valuable topics. Over 3 million people have completed Squadron boating courses.Free Safety Check of Your Boat ~ USPS members provide vessel safety examinations for recreational boats and personal watercraft. Our Vessel Examiners issue decals for boats which meet all Federal and applicable state safety standards.A Network of Friends and Family ~ Enjoy friendship and camaraderie on and off the water with fellow members who share your love of the water and a desire for knowledge about boating. On the water activities include Cruises, Rendezvous, Raft-ups and more.Environmental Programs ~ Many squadrons help local authorities with environmental projects. Some monitor water quality. Others help clean-up and beautify our waters. USPS members are always at the forefront in marine-related community service projects. |
USPS – Designing for the Future
USPS is the most recognized and respected provider of basic public boating classes
and advanced education to our members in America. We are now reaching out to all
recreation boaters. Boater with all levels of experience in all sorts of
recreational boats from kayaks and canoes to power and sail boats of all sizes. The new USPS University will offer total immersion educational programs that blend classroom instruction, distance learning and on-the-water training. Subject matter ranges from the most basic to advanced training for offshore sailors and those seeking Coast Guard License USPS is reaching out to boating groups all across the country from fishing and hunting clubs, paddle sports organizations, sailing groups and yacht clubs with offerings to support their educational needs. This outreach program also adds a new dimension to our strong program of squadron social activities. Just as we taught navigation to the Navy and Merchant Marine during two World Wars, the new USPS continues to provide government assistance keeping nautical charts up to date, reporting serious boating weather conditions and providing vessel safety checks for all recreational watercraft. The USPS has earned for its educational and civic service programs has enhanced our partnerships with other boating organizations and, through cooperative agreements, benefits of USPS membership. Selected marinas offer lower moorage fees for USPS members. New programs with insurance carriers provide enhanced coverage as a due to our safe boating record. Our large membership equates to significant buying power leading to attractive discounts with national marine supply chains.
